H.E. President William Samoei Ruto CGH, accompanied by Deputy President H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH, stood at the forefront of progress as he commissioned the Mathira Community Water Supply Project. Their presence signaled a new era for over 25,000 residents of Mathira, who would now have access to sufficient water for both domestic use and irrigation. Joined by Hon. Zachariah Njeru, EGH, Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Mathira MP Hon. Eric Wamumbi, TWWDA Board of Directors and CEO, Parliament Majority Leader Hon. Kimani Ichungwa, Nyeri Deputy Governor Wamatinga Wahome, and a host of distinguished guests, the event marked a significant milestone in the region’s development.
The occasion commenced with a detailed briefing on the project’s scope and its impact on the community. Soon after, the delegation visited the homestead of Ruth Wangeci Muriuki, a beneficiary of the project. At her homestead, the community showcased an array of agricultural products grown on their land – a testament to the transformative power of the water project.
In an instant, President Ruto officially opened the water supply, unleashing its life-giving flow to nourish the land and its people. Embarking on a tour of Ruth’s farm, the delegation marveled at the lush fields and flourishing crops that now thrived under the newfound access to water.
President Ruto emphasized that the project’s impact goes beyond its infrastructure as it represents a catalyst for sustainable development and prosperity within the community. Access to clean and reliable water for both domestic and agricultural purposes has improved the living standards and created employment opportunities for men, women, and the youth in Mathira Constituency. He further added that the project is expected to boost local income levels and significantly contribute to enhancing food security in the area. Amidst the backdrop of jubilation and gratitude, President Ruto reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of every Kenyan.
The Mathira Community Water Supply Project boasts an impressive scope, including the installation of three intakes, 21 kilometers of primary gravity water mains, a 74-kilometer distribution network, and six water storage tanks. It stands as a testament to the transformative power of collective endeavors.
