Tana Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA) conducted Public participation meetings at Chaka, Nyaribo, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology(DeKuT), Embassy and TWWDA resource center from 01-03 September 2021.
The aim of these meetings was to inform, seek views and recommendations of the community and key stakeholders who are directly or indirectly affected by the proposed DeKUT and
environs sewerage project whose primary objective is to improve access to safe sanitation, services. This public participation was held is in fulfillment of Nema Kenya (NEMA) requirement to carry out full Enviromental Social Impact Assessment (ESIA).
The proposed project is considered important and beneficial for management of waste water within Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) and surrounding residential areas with high concentration of housing estates which include DeKUT, Makao Estate, Kahawa Ridge, Nyaribo, Nyeri View Estate, Stephen Mwaniki Estate, Embassy, Major seminary in Kihuyo area, Kenya Industrial Estates, Hill Court, Riverside, KDF camp at Kabiruini Showground, Madiba Gardens and parts of Chaka.
DeKUT and surrounding areas have an estimated population of 65,000 people while the considered parts of Chaka have about 8,000 people bringing the expected number of beneficiaries to a total of 73,000.
